First off I will start by saying I love chocolate and was amazed at how many different ways she was able to make chocolate like the chocolates made with chili pepper, little truffles, etc. and the time when they used it as a gravy and poured it over all their meal. It was crazy how much chocolate they had. And the acting was so good that every time they bit into a chocolate I craved one really bad. I do believe that chocolate can arouse people/help brighten their spirits because whenever im having a bad day chocolate can make it a litlle better. The themes I got out of the movie were that you shouldn't judge someone and try to turn against them if they don't do what you think is right. Just do what you think is right. And to go out of the box and try something new even though it's different , it doesn't always mean its bad. Ive learned from trying different foods that sometimes you have to break away from what society says is right and try it because you could be missing out on something wonderful. In Ram Samudralas movie review he brought up the idea that along with the town changing tradition and eating chocolate during lent Vianne learned to chang her ways as well and learned that following tradition can be harmful to her daughter. I didn't think of that theme relating to Vianne until i read the review. I read a few review and all of them enjoyed the movie as did I. And a lot of them all mentioned the great acting ability of Lena Olin and how convincing she changed characters from an abused klepto to a strong woman.

I can completely relate to how fascinated you were with all of the different desserts that were presented in the film, they were beautiful and in contexts and significance that have never occurred to me before. I can relate to the themes that you took away from the film I to can see those themes and their contribution. I also found significance to some of these themes in other food related topics that we have studied in class. Although very different topics the study of food can teach us a lot about cultures and ourselves that we have never thought about before
I absolutely craved chocolate as I watched this movie. I love chocolate
and I agree with you that having a little bit of chocolate can make my day
a little bit better. I would have to agree with you that trying out things
is not always a bad thing. It's funny because there are some things that I
don't like but I will continue to try them thinking that, "Maybe I will
like it this time." This usually occurs with seafood. I try it a lot but
everytime it is a NO GO. It is always worth trying something because you
never know what the outcome could be. I was glad to see that in the movie,
the people from the small town all came together and enjoyed the chocolate
shop that had opened. You can't judge right from the beginning because it
causes problems, just as it did in this movie. Once the people actually
went to the shop, their opinions changed and everyone ended up happy in
the end.
I craved chocolate when I was watching the movie as well, so i paused the movie and went downstairs to the kitchen for some twix bars! there were definitely a lot of different themes throughout the movie and the way food contributed to various themes is fun to think about.
I do believe that norms of food pushes people towards eating a certain food or not eating a certain food like you stated in your blog. The thing about this that fascinates me is when I watch cooking foods and I see a "incredible cook" taste something that I know tastes disgusting to me and says after eating it oh man this tastes amazing. I wonder what in our brain tells one person that a food tastes good while another person thinks it is disgusting
